Addition by Subtraction - How I lost Weight and Gained Confidence, Energy and Focus

Daddy-Daughter Dance 2010
Daddy-Daughter Dance 2011
My name is Jim Miller and I live in a small suburb just North of Dallas, Texas.  I am a 42 year-old teacher and basketball coach who has, overtime, become well overweight (see 2010 Daddy-Daughter photos).  Thus, the connection and the irony to the title of this blog.  If your anywhere near my age and are a basketball fan, you most certainly remember the movie "White Men Can't Jump" starring Woody Harelson and Wesley Snipes - a great basketball movie that played on the sterotype of white players not being athletic at all.  Well, in my lifetime of playing and coaching basketball, I have come across a few "white boys"who could  jump out of the gym (the great Lance Hughes from Texas Tech comes to mind) and even some black players that couldn't slide an onion skin under their feet on a jump shot. So, I have proof there are indeed some exceptions to the stereotype that the movie suggest.  I was certainly no "high-flyer" myself when I played the game, but I wasn't a slouch either - my vertical jump was above average, but being only 5-8, I didn't rattle any rims, that is for sure.  But, soon after I began coaching the game I love in 1998, I began to put on quite a bit of weight and I have been overweight by at least 40lbs for the past 8 or so years.  As a result, I could no longer enjoy playing the game I coach or love, because even though my mind knows what I need and should do, my body could no longer execute those things due to my "John Goodman" gut and "Rosanne Bar" backside.  My problem was that playing basketball requires rapid, quick movements and yes, elevation from the gym floor - the only quick and rapid moves I made were going to  sleep and to the bathroom.  There was a time when I would get out on the court and play with my players and coaches, but I haven't in a long time because "FAT MEN CAN'T JUMP!  That's not a stereotype, that is the sad truth that I have lived for the past 10 years.  There several other things that Fat Men can't do - here is a list of just a few:
  • can't get comfortable in dress clothes (a tie might as well be a noose)
  • can't climb a flight of stairs without requiring a breathing treatment
  • can't walk around an amusement park without getting road rash on the undercarriage
  • can't find the energy to focus and enjoy their family after work
  • can't get their fat arse off the couch to do needed things around the house
  • can't get reasonable rates on life insurance
  • can't overcome lower back and joint pain
  • and finally and most importantly, can't expect to be around long enough to see their kids and grandkids grow and prosper
For the past 10 years, I have known and came to realize all of these things, but was still unable to successfully lose weight and become healthier.  I tried a few diets and even lost several pounds from time-to-time, but only to put them back on.  Then, in November of this year, a dad of one of my players, introduced me to a weight loss protocol known as the HCG Diet and it has, in the span of approximately 45 days changed my life and given me back things I never thought I would have again. I have lost 32 lbs since beginning the HCG Weightloss Protocol at the first of the year.  But I have gained so much more - energy that sustains me the whole day; focus to stay on top of my busy and multi-tasked day; confidence about the way I look and feel; and self-discipline and a sense of accomplishment as the protocol requires strict regiment but awards those efforts with instant, quick results.  Thus the title of this post - Addition by Subtraction;  when I talk about this diet to others and what it has done for me, I would rather tell them about my gains as opposed to just the pounds shed.
I have started this blog to inform and help others who also want to find a way to be successful at losing weight and also changing their nutritional lifestyle.  The really dynamic element to the HCG diet is that once significant weight is lost in a rapid manner, there is a specific protocol or phase that allows you to maintain your new weight by resetting you metabolism.  All of this is based on the extensive research of a British doctor, A.T.W. Simeons, who made breakthrough discoveries regarding weight loss and obesity, and I will provide as much information about his findings and the creation of his revolutionary diet as I can.  It truly is facsinating and educational information about personal nutrition.  I hope to have contributions from those who have been on the diet as well as those who are simply curious. I have several friends and colleagues now in on the diet and hopefully they will be adding their experiences on the diet phases.  Also, if you want to purchase the HCG Diet Drops and Quick Start Guide, I can sell that to you for much less than you would pay at a retail merchant, so please contact me and I will get you started on the current number one weight loss program in the world - the HCG Diet.
